It was actor Robert Downey Jr. who first approached SpeedKore with a vision to create a car befitting of the “First Avenger.” The build began as a gift for Downey’s close friend and “The Avenger’s” co-star Chris Evans. With Downey’s direct input, the Camaro emerged as a tribute to Evans' iconic Marvel character Captain America.
Interior
The interior was custom designed by SpeedKore and upholstered by Gabe’s Custom Interiors in Eureka European leather.nThe RECARO seats are fittingly wrapped in “Bomber Brown,” an apt reference and subtle nod to Captain America’s World War II origins. The Captain America theme continues with the steering wheel emblazoned with the iconic shield. A plaque commemorates the vehicle as the "Steve Rogers Special Edition”.
Powertrain
Powering this classic Camaro is a GM LS3 V8 engine topped with a Whipple 2.9-liter supercharger upgraded with a Wegner Performance front pulley drive system. In all, the engine produces over 700 horsepower and routes it to the rear wheels via SuperMatic four-speed automatic transmission.
EXTERIOR
The exterior is emblematic of Downey’s vision, an homage to the ’67 Camaro’s timeless styling with numerous exterior modifications to mark it as something special. The Camaro features a predominantly metal body that was restored at SpeedKore’s Grafton-based facility. The finish is a coat of PPG Grigio Verde paint selected by Downey and accented by Satin Grigio brightwork and accessories.
Wheels & Chassis
The Camaro features a Detroit Speed performance suspension front suspension with a four-link at the rear. Stopping power is provided by Baer Brakes Extreme 6S calipers clamping down on 14-inch rotors. The Camaro rides on HRE RS101 wheels measuring 18-inch in diameter at the front and 20-inch at the rear and wrapped in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.
