American Muscle Meets Hypercar: Built to showcase SpeedKore’s capabilities with materials and design, Tantrum was our statement of intent. Our goal was to introduce the world to the next level of customization; a Dodge Charger reimagined and honed to create the first hypercar out of an American icon. Tantrum follows SpeedKore’s principles of shedding weight and adding power to the letter. The Charger gained prominence in “The Fast and The Furious” movie franchise and was heralded for it's use of advanced carbon-fiber body panels and a twin-turbocharged 1,650 horsepower Mercury Racing powertrain.
EXTERIOR
Custom-built components include full carbon-fiber front fenders, hood, valances and bumpers. The carbon-fiber weave shines through a gloss finish at the front before tapering off into a mirror-like black PPG finish over the hood and front wheel arches. The grille was milled in-house from a single block of aluminum before being fitted with a set of custom LED projector headlights. The rear is accented by a CNC-machined trim panel housing modern taillamps and inscribed with “Tantrum”.
Interior
Crafted by the team at Gabe’s Custom Interiors, the cabin beautifully mixes a retro aesthetic with modern trimmings encompassed by metal and carbon fiber. A blend of Alcantara and leather accentuate the carbon fiber’s exposed weave, and the seats and dash are fully bespoke.
Wheels & Chassis
“Tantrum” rides on a fully customized chassis with an altered and reinforced Roadster Shop front end. The floors, frame rails, inner fenders and roll bar were laser cut in-house at SpeedKore. Stopping power is provided via a set of Baer Brakes with 14-inch rotors. The rear is home to a custom four-link suspension. “Tantrum” rides on a set of staggered HRE S104s – 19-inch up front and 20-inch in the rear. The wheels are shod in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.
Powertrain
Beneath the carbon-fiber hood sits a QC4V engine setup from Mercury Racing. “Tantrum” is the first application of a Mercury Marine engine into a street vehicle. The QC4V is a 90-degree double-overhead-cam V8 displacing 9.0-liters and fed by a pair of 94mm turbochargers. Total output is 1,650 horsepower on 110 Octaine. The Mercury Racing engine is mated to Tremec T-56 Bowler six-speed manual transmission routing power through a Ford 9-inch rear end.
